A small mandir at home: where and how to set it up
A few easy suggestions for arranging a prayer room or a small corner, most of which families already follow.

The deity's place at home does not have to be big. A clean shelf or a small wooden mandir is enough.
- A clean, quiet spot with light and air is best. Many people choose the north-east corner, but wherever you have room will do.
- Avoid placing it against a bathroom wall; that is ordinary cleanliness, nothing more.
- Keep the murti or picture slightly raised, not on the floor.
- A lamp or incense, flowers and water each day. Placing a tulsi leaf before the deity is the custom in many Vaishnava homes.
- If you offer bhog, keep it simple and cleanly made: fruit, milk or something sweet.
Customs differ by family. Follow what your elders taught you, and do not be upset if someone points out a difference.
