Vrindavan parikrama: the route, the time and what to keep in mind

Parikrama means walking around a sacred place, keeping it on your right. Vrindavan has a parikrama path that circles the whole town.

It is usually said to be about 10 km. At an easy pace it takes a few hours. Small temples, ashrams and shops line the way. Many people start at dawn, when the sun is milder and the crowd is thinner.

Before you go

  • Wear comfortable footwear. Some walk barefoot, but the road gets very hot in summer.
  • Carry water.
  • Leave valuables, jewellery and large amounts of cash behind.
  • There are monkeys. Take care with food, glasses and phones in your hand.
  • Season: October to March is comparatively comfortable, summer and the monsoon are harder.

If an elderly or unwell person is with you, ask locals about a rickshaw or another way. There is no need to go beyond what you can manage.
