What is the difference between bhog and prasad

Bhog is food offered before the deity. As long as it is placed before the deity, it is bhog.

When the same food comes back to the devotees after the offering, it is called prasad. The root meaning of the word is grace or gladness. So a sweet bought from outside does not become prasad just by being eaten; the step of offering matters.

In Vaishnava practice the cooking for bhog usually leaves out onion and garlic, and the cook does not taste it while preparing, because the first portion belongs to the deity.

We also want to be clear about what we send: every product page says whether the pack was offered at the temple. If that is not true, it is not written.
