Keshi Ghat and the Yamuna aarti: an evening in Vrindavan
About Keshi Ghat on the Yamuna, the evening aarti and what to keep in mind on a boat ride.
Updated 25 Oct 2026
Keshi Ghat is one of the best-known ghats on the Yamuna in Vrindavan. Tradition says Krishna killed the demon Keshi here, which gives the place its name.
In the evening the Yamuna aarti is held here. Lamps, bells and conch shells create a calm mood by the river. Many take a boat and look at the ghats and the rows of temples from the water.
Keep in mind
- Fix the boat fare before you get in, and ask for a life jacket if you want one.
- In the rains the steps get slippery when the water rises.
- If you float flowers or lamps in the Yamuna, avoid plastic and keep the river clean.
- The aarti time shifts with the season, so arrive a little early.
