Mathura, Vrindavan, Gokul, Govardhan, Barsana: what is what
Five places of Braj and the part of Krishna's life each is tied to, in plain words for first-time visitors.

First-time visitors to Braj often mix up the names. In plain words:
- Mathura: held to be the birthplace of Krishna. The Krishna Janmabhoomi temple is its best-known place.
- Gokul: after the birth, his father Vasudeva left him here at Nanda's house. Many childhood stories belong to it.
- Vrindavan: the leelas of his boyhood and youth, the raas, Banke Bihari, Radha Raman, Prem Mandir, ISKCON and the Yamuna ghats.
- Govardhan: the hill that Krishna is said to have lifted on his finger. Famous for its parikrama.
- Barsana and Nandgaon: Barsana is Radha's village and Nandgaon is Nanda's. Lathmar Holi is played between these two villages.
Mathura to Vrindavan is roughly 10 to 15 km. The others are farther, so do not try to see everything in one day; split it.
