Temple manners in Vrindavan
Small but useful points on footwear, clothing, phones, crowds and monkeys for first-time visitors.

To devotees, the temples of Vrindavan are places of living worship. A few small points make your darshan calmer.
Footwear and clothes
Shoes are left outside the temple, and many places have a keeping arrangement. Dress modestly; covered shoulders and knees are a good rule.
Phones, bags and photos
Some temples do not allow phones, cameras or large bags inside. The rules differ from temple to temple, so read the notice at the gate or ask the staff. Keep your phone on silent.
Crowds and timings
Festivals and holidays are crowded. If you travel with elders, early morning is easier. Most temples close for a few hours in the afternoon, and darshan times change with the season, so check on the same day.
Monkeys
Vrindavan has many monkeys that can snatch spectacles, phones or prasad packets. Keep these in your bag instead of in your hand, and do not show them food.
Donations
If you wish to give, use the temple’s own counter. Be careful with anyone who insists.
